Freight forwarding software in 2026: CargoWise and its alternatives

A forwarder’s software has to get three things right at once: the shipment file across air, ocean and road, the customs and screening obligations of every country the freight crosses, and an invoice that captures every cost passed on by carriers. The market has also changed its pricing logic: CargoWise now charges per transaction, while smaller platforms still charge per user. We compared the platforms forwarders and NVOCCs actually run on, from their public information checked on September 23, 2026, with no paid placements.

What changed in 2025-2026, and why speed matters

CargoWise pricing: WiseTech Global informed more than 95% of CargoWise customers on October 31, 2025 that the seat-and-transaction licence in place since 2014 was being replaced by four “Value Packs” (forwarding, customs, warehousing, land transport), billed as an all-in fee per logistics transaction, live from December 1, 2025. If you are quoted CargoWise, ask for the cost on your actual volume of shipments and stand-alone declarations, not a seat count.

Per-user pricing is still the rule elsewhere: Logitude World publishes $75 per user per month (Smart) and $99 (Professional), with Enterprise quoted from 30 users. Magaya, GoFreight and Riege price on request.

Why the software is worth the effort: Hummels and Schaur (American Economic Review, 2013) estimate that each day in transit is equivalent to an ad valorem tariff of 0.6 to 2.1%, and Djankov, Freund and Pham (Review of Economics and Statistics, 2010) find that each additional day a product is delayed before shipping reduces trade volumes by more than 1%. Every day a file sits waiting for a missing document or a re-keyed declaration has a real cost for your client.

The contenders, in detail

1. CargoWise

Multinational forwarders and NVOCCs running one system across many countries

CargoWise (WiseTech Global) is the enterprise reference for international forwarding, customs brokerage, warehousing and land transport in one system. Since December 1, 2025 it is sold through “Value Packs”: an all-in fee per logistics transaction (shipment, stand-alone customs declaration, warehouse order line) instead of the former seat-and-transaction licence, with no seat fees and unlimited users, according to WiseTech.

Scope, from Germany’s Riege Software, is a cloud platform for air freight, ocean freight and customs, with customs modules for Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the USA, according to the publisher.

How to choose

Customs and screening depth for your countries

A wrong HS code or a missing document holds a shipment at the border, not just in the software. Check that customs filing is built for the countries you actually clear in (Riege lists Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the US, for example) and that denied-party screening against the US Consolidated Screening List runs on every shipper and consignee.

Pricing model that matches your volume

Per-transaction pricing (CargoWise) favours teams with many users and few shipments; per-user pricing (Logitude World, GoFreight) favours small teams with high volume. Model both on last year’s numbers before comparing quotes.

Multimodal file in one view

Most forwarders mix air, ocean and road in the same week. One shipment file should follow the goods across modes and carriers, with documents (AWB, bill of lading) generated from the same data.

Accounting flow and data exit

Ask exactly how invoices and carrier costs reach your accounting system, and get in writing what you can export (shipment history, customers, rate tables) and in which format if you leave.

Only one vendor in this comparison publishes a price list: Logitude World, at $75 per user per month (Smart) or $99 (Professional), checked on September 23, 2026. CargoWise, Magaya, GoFreight and Riege Scope price on request; CargoWise now bills per transaction under its Value Packs. Ask for a quote that includes implementation and data migration.

What are CargoWise Value Packs?

The commercial model WiseTech Global introduced on December 1, 2025: four packs (forwarding, customs, warehousing, land transport), each billed as an all-in fee per logistics transaction such as a shipment or a stand-alone customs declaration, with no seat fees and unlimited users. It replaced the seat-and-transaction licence used since 2014.

Which platform suits a small forwarder?

Logitude World and GoFreight are built for smaller teams and shorter rollouts; Magaya adds warehouse management for North American forwarders; CargoWise and Riege Scope fit operations already running multi-country workflows. The deciding factor is usually customs: make sure the countries you clear in are covered.

Do these platforms handle denied-party screening?

Screening shippers, consignees and notify parties against sanctions and export-control lists is a legal obligation, not an option. Enterprise suites include it; for smaller platforms, ask whether screening is built in, an add-on or a third-party integration, and whether every party on the file is checked automatically.
